Yinka Adeyemi
Yinka Adeyemi is a Yoruba artist from Osogbo in Southwestern Nigeria. Osogbo is the seat of the Osun State government in Nigeria. This region is world renowned for its rich cultural and artistic heritage.
Yinka Adeyemi was born in Iragbigi and has lived in Ile-Ife, the purported navel of Yoruba civilization and beliefs, for the past four decades. He now resides in California, and is a self-proclaimed Cultural Ambassador and guardian of the culture and traditions of Yorubaland.
Yinka masterfully uses his indigenous wisdom to create visions that evoke the cultural mores of his people. He uses its virtuosity to juxtapose ageless customs with a markedly contemporary flair. His artworks are an exhilarating amalgamation of Western Culture and mythological beliefs of the Yorubas.
He began his life?s work with the Osogbo Arts Movement in Nigeria in the sixties. He studied and traveled with the world renown Duro Ladipo Theatre, and was a student of acclaimed Austrian born artist, Susanne Wenger. Yinka participates in solo & group art exhibitions in his native Nigeria, Holland, Yugoslavia, The Netherlands and numerous cities in the United States, including Philadelphia, Emeryville, Berkeley, Boston, Cleveland, Oakland, Maryland, Los Angeles, San Jose, San Leandro, and Santa Fe.

They pulsate with the steady rhythmic beat of life, and draw you into the vibrancy and beauty of his brilliance, perceptions of life and African culture.
